Case For Support

Reasons to Support The Detroit Institute for Children (DIC):

  • Uniqueness- We care for the most fragile population in your community – children and young adults with physical or neurological disabilities.   This is an underserved population, and we are one of the only facilities in the state caring specifically for these children. Your support will benefit children who can find help nowhere else.

  • Longevity – We have been caring for children with disabilities since 1920, and have evolved to serve the growing and changing needs of our kids.  Your gift will go to a solid organization with a strong foundation.

  • Sustainability – We have endured all the challenges, economic limitations, and political and social conflict that weave the history of this region and this nation.  Yet, we have remained a steadfast source of hope and healing for our disabled kids, and have a strategic plan in place to ensure hope in healing in new and greater ways for years to come.  Your donation will help the kids we serve now, and will benefit children for years to come.

  • Efficiency – Our organization has streamlined its efficiency over the past several years to ensure that maximum amount of benefit to our children from your gift.  Many of our core functions are outsourced, and we fundraise in response to additional needs of our organization.  Indeed over 75% of every dollar goes directly to a child in need.

  • Need – In a difficult economic time, services for those with disabilities are often pushed to the back burner.  Yet, children who need our services to become productive and happy citizens still need our help.  Kids who are learning to walk and talk have bigger worries than just our economy.  This, coupled with the fact that government and private insurances reimburse less than 48% of our cost to treat the children creates a gap in our budget that must be filled by our fundraising efforts.  By supporting The DIC, you will be giving over 1,600 very special children the chance to have a wonderful childhood full of hope and potential, regardless of their disability.
