The Therapy Center

The Therapy Center is in Commerce Twp. directly off the expressways M-5, near I696, M14, I96 and 275 for easy access. The Therapy Center partners with children, parents, and families to offer pediatric speech and language and occupational therapy services. Our team consists of licensed and knowledgeable occupational therapists and speech pathologists who are passionate about ensuring young individuals thrive. Each of our therapists bring unique training, education, and experience to our clients to help children achieve specific therapy goals.

We offer individual, group and teletherapy sessions.

We have a sensory room designed to provide a safe, calm, and fun environment for children.

Our Speech therapists provide consultations, evaluation, and therapy sessions to aid children improve their speech and language skills. The scope of our services encompasses a spectrum of areas related to language production, retention, interpretation, and communication. Our licensed speech and language therapists will evaluate your child’s needs and provide a therapy plan. We help children of all ages from toddlers who are initially acquiring speech to teens who are struggling with more complex communication needs.

Our Occupational therapists use a variety of treatment approaches, one of which is sensory integration. We partner with parents and families to create treatment plans that assist children in achieving their goals and address individualized areas of concern. We provide personalized occupational therapy plans based on the individual’s needs. We work with children to improve gross and fine motor skills, overcome challenges associated with developmental differences, and improve sensory integration skills.

For Private Childcare Centers

The Therapy Center offers free speech and language screening on location at local private childcare centers! We will come out to your program and screen the children that may have or be at risk for speech, language and learning delays. We will work with you to set up a day and time for the screenings. Prior to arriving we will send you information for the parents and permission slips to send home. At the conclusion of the screening, information on the findings will be provided to the parents and recommendations will be offered in writing.

What is Speech Therapy?

Speech therapy is the assessment and treatment of communication problems and speech disorders. It is performed by Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs), who are often referred to as speech therapists.

What is Occupational Therapy?

Occupational therapy (OT) is a treatment for problems with movement and coordination. It helps people improve their fine and gross motor skills involved in everyday tasks, like writing and getting dressed.

Insurance Coverage

Our practice works with medical insurance providers such as HAP, Priority Health, Tricare, BCN, BCBCM and others. Please call us for more information at 248-963-1224.

However, many insurance plans offer partial coverage for families who work with out-of-network specialists. We are happy to provide a superbill and other documentation necessary for you to receive out-of-network benefits from your insurance provider.

If you are not sure whether you have out-of-network benefits for specialty services, please contact your insurance provider directly.

If your insurance company does not have out-of-network benefits for the services provided, you are responsible for the full amount due.

The Detroit Institute for Children currently serves more than 5,000 children with special needs in schools, Head Start, and Early Intervention programs throughout Detroit and Southeastern Michigan. The DIC provides speech language pathology, occupational therapies, social work, psychological services and special education consulting.
