Employee Opinion Survey Shows Continued Improvement in Work Environment
Article Date: 08/04/2009
The recent employee opinion survey conducted in May 2009 by Human Resources shows a continued improvement in the work environment based on employee scores compared to the previous survey in 2006.
The confidential survey, in which employees provided feedback on 31 survey questions, was completed by over 90% of employees. The survey allows the participants to rate various work related questions on a scale of 1 to 5 with a rating of “5” being the highest and equal to “strongly agree.” The survey was previously conducted in 2006, at which time it was compared to the 2003 survey results. At that time the survey contained several new questions but there were 14 comparable questions that could be examined and compared to 2003. Of the 14 questions, higher ratings resulted in 11 of the 14 categories, showing an improvement in the overall survey results which measure employee satisfaction.
The 2009 survey results have continued the strong trend of improvement. Of the 31 measurement categories, 26 questions could be compared to the 2006 survey. Of these 26, improved scores were seen in 24 of them. Overall, there were 13 measurement categories that received an overall “very favorable” rating, and ten categories that received a “favorable” rating; all others were rated as neutral.
According to Larry Deary, HR Director, “It is significant that four of the highest rated scores were for (1) being proud of working at The DIC, (2) being proud of the care provided at The DIC, (3) the level of respect given to them by their supervisor, and (4) how much they like working for their supervisor. These responses indicate that as an organization we are making very positive strides in creating a meaningful and positive work environment for our staff, which translates to high quality care for all our patients.”
