The Detroit Institute for Children (The DIC) has been caring for children with special needs since 1959. Thank you for choosing us to care for your child and for trusting us to help your child reach their highest potential. We treasure each child and are delighted by each child’s success.
Today, it is more difficult than in the past to bring your child all of these wonderful services because insurance companies have reduced payments. Some services are no longer covered at all. We are doing everything we can to make sure that we can continue to provide the services today and in the future.
We are asking for your help as we try to limit the number of canceled/missed appointments. Families who miss 2 appointments in a row, or who miss more than 2 out their 8 scheduled therapy appointments in a 2 month period will be taken off the schedule and will be discharged.
The DIC cannot have our therapists, doctors, and nurses waiting when appointments are missed. There are many children on the waiting list who really need these appointments.
We are asking that you work very hard to keep the appointments you schedule with us. If you have missed too many appointments, we will send you a letter telling you that your child has been taken off the schedule. Other doctors and health care providers in the area have had this attendance policy for many years.
We do not want to lose your child as patient. We must take this action in order to make sure that the very best health care services remain available for all of our children, hopefully for a very long time.
We hope that you will work with us. If you have any questions about this attendance policy, please call (313) 832-1100 and ask to speak to Dr. Donovan.
