Mike Wooley became President and CEO of The Detroit Institute for Children (The DIC) in May of 2003 after an already impressive and diverse career in the medical and health industry, and a unique experience in politics.

Immediately prior to joining The DIC, he was President and CEO of Brighton Hospital, a 93-bed substance abuse facility.  There, he was responsible for over 150 employees and a budget of over $10 million dollars.  Before Brighton Hospital, Wooley served as Vice President of Ambulatory Services for Providence Hospital and Medical Centers (PHMC).  He reported directly to the president of PHMC and was responsible for $43 million in net revenues, 250 employees, and three satellite sites.  He has also served in a variety of capacities with St. John’s Medical Group, Pontiac Osteopathic Hospital and William Beaumont Hospital and has shared his extensive knowledge with others through his adjunct faculty positions Oakland University and Oakland Community College.

In 1995, Wooley was elected as Mayor Pro-Tem, and in 1996 as Mayor of the City of Birmingham.  He ran for office after much involvement in civic activities through service as a City Commissioner

In addition to his extensive responsibilities at The DIC, he serves on the boards of the Oakland University Foundation and the Oakland University Executive MBA Advisory Board.  He is appointed to membership at the St. John Health System Strategic Advisory Council and Operations Council as well as the St. John Health System President’s Council.

Wooley is also a member of; the Michigan College of Healthcare Executives, the American College of Health Care Executives, Michigan Hospital Association, and the Legislative Policy Committee of the Michigan Hospital Association.

He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics/Computer Science from Oakland University and his Master’s Degree in Hospital Administration from Central Michigan University.

He resides with his wife in Birmingham.


Eileen Donovan, M.D. currently serves as Medical Director at The Detroit Institute for Children, but first began her career at The DIC in 1983 as a Physical Therapist. At that time, she developed and instituted the serial casting program that is still helping children today. She left The DIC in 1991 to pursue her education as a physician with a specialization in pediatric physical medicine and rehabilitation, and honored her promise to someday return.

Prior to her return to The DIC, Dr. Donovan served as an Attending Physician in the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, as well as Director of the Spina Bifida Clinic, at the Children’s National Medical Center in Washington D.C.

Dr. Donovan is Board Certified by the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. She has been the recipient of the Leonard F. Bender Award for Research in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, the Anna K. Rutsky Award for Outstanding Student in Pediatrics, and was Valedictorian of the Program for Physical Therapy at Marquette University.


Larry Deary
is the Director of Human Resources at The Detroit Institute for Children, where he is responsible for overseeing employment, compensation and benefits, employee relations, training and development, facilities management and maintenance, and safety and security for each and every DIC employee. 

Deary brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to his position from his background in Human Resources management and consulting.  After serving for 19 years as the Vice President of Human Resources at a major Detroit area hospital, Deary ventured into consulting, where he specializes in strategic human resource planning, performance planning and reward systems, leader coaching and mentoring, core HR service assessment, customer service skill building and Employer of Choice strategy development.

Deary earned a bachelor’s degree in Business and Human Resources from Wayne State University, and his master’s degree in industrial relations from Central Michigan University.


Jennifer Thomas serves as the Development Director with The Detroit Institute for Children.
In her position, she is responsible for overseeing the planning, execution, and management of all  philanthropic activity for the organization.  Her primary duties include recruiting, cultivating, soliciting and involving top community leaders in the advancement of The DIC.  She is also responsible for development fundraising programs, including major, annual and planned gifts, events, external relations for development, marketing and public relations activities, and direct mail campaigns.

With an extensive history in non-profit fundraising and marketing, Thomas served as a non-profit consultant before joining The DIC in 2006.  Prior to consulting, Thomas worked with Judson Center in Royal Oak as Community Relations Director for 5 years.  She also served as an account executive with Franco Public Relations Group in Detroit.  Her career began as Director of National Outreach with Campus Outreach Opportunity League in Washington D.C.

Thomas received a bachelor of arts degree in Communications and Journalism from Central Michigan University.


Don Drouillard has more than 30 years' experience in the healthcare industry.  His primary area of expertise is information systems management and project planning.  Throughout his career, Mr. Drouillard has served in several healthcare related management positions primarily in the information technology sector.  His experiences includes working for community and tertiary hospitals, Health Maintenance Organizations, and information consulting firms specializing in healthcare outsourcing.  Prior to joining The Detroit Institute for Children he served as the Director of Data Center Operations for a leading Information Technology consulting firm specializing in hosting and supporting hospital computer hardware and related software systems.

In his role as Director of Customer Services and Support Services, Mr. Drouillard is responsible for the daily operation of the registration, scheduling, billing and medical records areas.  He also oversees all information services and technology related projects.

Mr. Drouillard is a native Detroiter currently residing with his wife in Rochester Hills.  He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Wayne State University and his Master of Business Administration in Strategic Planning from Davenport University.
