What does The Detroit Institute for Children (DIC) do?The Detroit Institute for Children provides comprehensive rehabilitative care to children with developmental and neurological disabilities. A multitude of services are provided daily and include physical therapy, speech therapy, occupational therapy, assistive technology, orthotics and physician and clinic services. These services are provided on an outpatient basis at our facilities as well as within local schools via our school contract services.
Where do you provide services?Our main office is centrally located in northern Detroit, off Woodward Avenue. Click here for a map and driving directions. We have also partnered with The Abilities Center in Walled Lake to provide additional services to our northern Oakland County population. We also have a partnership with Developmental Dentistry in Detroit for a specialty clinic to treat our disabled children.
How can I help The DIC?There are numerous ways that you can help The DIC and the wonderful children who turn to us for care. From your financial contribution, to participating or volunteering in an event, to sponsoring a child in need, you can become a very important part of a disabled child’s life. What type of insurance do you accept?The Detroit Institute for Children works with dozens of insurers from around the country to insure that your medical bills are paid. How do I get an appointment?If you are interested in receiving treatment for you or your loved one, please call our new appointment hotline at 313-832-1100, extension 223. Before your appointment, please be sure you are prepared by completing our appointment checklist (to access, click here). We look forward to becoming a part of your special family!
How long is the waiting list?The length of time varies upon the area of service, but usually the wait is no longer than three months. We provide services year-round, and have extended hours to accommodate every scheduling need.
What are your hours?We are open for treatment from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Fridays.
Where can we park?Free parking is located directly behind our Detroit location, and free overflow parking is available in the lot adjacent to the one behind the building. You may also use the metered parking on Woodward Avenue, directly in front of the building.I have more questions.
